Presque Isle Farm Cider - Pommeau Vieux Doux
Presque Isle Farm Cider - Pommeau Vieux Doux
Presque Isle Farm Cider's Vieux Doux Pommeau
This is PIF's most traditional style French Pommeau. It is 70% bittersweet apple varieties (Dabinett and Bulmer's) and 30% heirloom apples (Spitz, Newtown Pippin, and Roxbury Russet).
The apple brandy base for this pommeau had been in a French oak barrel since 2020. PIF then blended the juice with the brandy and aged it in fairly neutral Bourbon barrels. The finished product is rich and soft and so smooth.
Very limited release, not eligible for discounts (except for our Cider Club Member's discount codes).Â
About Pommeau: French-style apple âmistelle,â a blend of fresh juice (called âmustâ) and brandy. Historically, in western France, fresh apple juice was blended with cider brandy to preserve the flavors throughout the year. This operation, known as âmutage,â was done quietly on the family farm and, for centuries, the method was a closely guarded secret. The result became the local apĂ©ritif, called Pommeau - from âpomme,â meaning apple. A fine Pommeau blends strength, sweetness and delicacy. Click here to learn more about Pommeau and to browse our collection of pommeau and other dessert ciders.
About PIF Cider: Presque Isle Farm (pronounced: Preh-sk Aisle) is a fantastic cidermaker from Northern Michigan. Located on the shores of Lake Huron in the Northeast corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, PIF is a labor of love owned & operated by Dion & Molly Stepanski - partners in business and in life. The cidery was launched as an extension of their growing organic farm in Alpena, Michigan. PIF's focus is on English style cider - made with apples sourced from small farms across northern Michigan. They use a combination of cider-specific apple varieties, classic American apples, and wild foraged apples. Their cidermaking process focuses on minimal intervention and naturally fermented ciders. PIF's ciders are made in the traditional English and New England style and focus on cider-specific apples that can bring a complexity equal to wine.Â
