Tall Ship Cider - 8-Pack of Norwegian Ciders
Tall Ship Cider - 8-Pack of Norwegian Ciders
These ciders from Tallship Cider in Norway are only available in highly limited quantities. Made by Abram Goldman-Armstrong, previously of Cider Riot in Portland, Oregon. Abram relocated to Sandefjord, Norway, where he now makes cider & beer at Tallship Cider. The Nordic countries in Northern Europe are home to a flourishing cider renaissance. We were fortunate to get our hands on a small number of cans of Abram's ciders while he and several other cider makers were in Portland for CiderCon 2024. (Pssst, we have a very small number of vertical flights of Cider Riot's 1763 West County ciders. E-Mail us and we might make one available to you.)
This 8-Pack of cans features a mix of Unsinkable Sam, South Seas Cider, and Bristol Fashion.
About Bristol Fashion: Vintage Dry Cider. A proper West Country Style tannin-dominant cider, with gentle carbonation. A blend of Dabinett, Yarlington Mill, and Ball's bittersweet, Bristol Fashion has notes of leather, smoke, and caramelized apple. Abram worked with Once Upon A Tree cider in Hereford, England to press the cider apples and send the juice over to Norway where he fermented it with a neutral white wine yeast, then let it go through a natural malo-lactic fermentation to give a rich creaminess to the body, and add a rustic character to the cider. The tannic backbone makes this the perfect pairing cider for a steak, and it's also a lovely match for a vintage cheddar.
About Unsinkable Sam, from Abram: A fresh and fruity blend of Katje (Katy) and Discovery apples grown in the mountains of Norway's Telemark region. Notes of royal anne cherry, ripe strawberry, with a bright hint of acidity in the finish. One of our most popular on-premise ciders in Oslo pubs. In the style of a classic Norwegian cider but without chaptilatization, filtration or back sweetening. I was initially shocked by the level of acidity in Norwegian apples, and looked at it as challenge to overcome as a cidermaker, with Unsinkable Sam I embraced it, and I'm very pleased I did. Unsinkable Sam has earned its place in my heart one of my favorite session ciders, and is perfect with cod, whitefish, or the Norwegian summer favorite rekker og loff (bay shrimp with butter and whitebread). Label design by Bugtears from Sandefjord.
About South Seas Cider: Hard Cider with Tasmanian Hops. Mango and green peach aromas with just a hint of caramelized sugar, along with subtle apple blossom aromas and ripe apple from the Summer Red and Discovery apples grown in Østfold (the bit of Norway on the East side of the Oslofjord nearest to Sweden). Ella hops hail from Tasmania which is also Australia's apple growing region, and join their tropical notes to the flavors of these Nordic apples. Demerara sugar from the island of Mauritius rounds out the cider, which is added in fermentation to fortify the cider, and a little added at packaging to give the cider balance. It is a great pairing for soft white cheeses, chevre, and beef.
