Small Batch Ciders - In Support of Small Businesses
Press Then Press is a small mom & pop shop (figuratively and literally - our toddler likes to help recycle the cardboard at our office). Both of us have other full time jobs and this cider shop is a side-hustle and labor of love of sorts. Most of the cidermakers we feature in our shop are also very small, family owned and operated businesses. The majority of them have fewer than 5 employees, including themselves, and are often supported by at least one of the family members having another job that props up the cidery. Your support of our business and of their amazing cider means the world to us.
This bundle features some some fun (and delightful!) ciders to try from a few of our favorite small-batch cider producers, including*:Ā
- Alpenfire Cider: One of Washington State's first commercial cideries when they opened in 2006, and the first American cidery to obtain a certified organic designation. Operated by Bear and Nancy Bishop, and their son Phillip, the family's estate orchard in Port Townsend on the Olympic Penninsula includes around 1,000 English, French, and Heirloom apple trees.Ā This bundle features Spark, made from a blend of organically grown bittersweet apple varieties.
- Empyrical Cider: Our friends & neighbors, Adam & Elizabeth, have won the nationally coveted GLINTCAP award for micro-scale Cidermaker of the Year in each of the last 3 years. (Micro-Scale per GLINTCAP = less than 5,000 gallons produced each year). Beautiful bottles of cider, inside and out. This bundle features Inversion IV, an elevated pear cider made from a bittersharp forward blend of cider apples. After primary fermentation, the cider is finished a la Methode Traditionelle with an oaked perry blended together with fresh perry pear and comice pear juice.Ā
- Eve's Cidery:Ā Started in 2001 by Autumn Stoscheck, James Cummins, and Ezra Sherman, Eve's Cidery was part of the early wave of cideries helping revive American fine cider. They have thoughtfully developed their own organic cider orchards, and make cider using traditional methods such as all native yeast fermentations, and bottling either still or naturally sparkling. This bundle features Autumn's Gold, Eve's signature blend made from a blend of apples that balances the textural elements of European Bittersweets with the bright acid of American heirloom varieties.Ā
- Orcas Isle Cider:Ā Located on beautiful Orcas Island in the heart of the Salish Sea, Orcas Isle Cider is one of the newest cideries in Washington State. Joe is sourcing fruit from throughout Orcas Island and from other orchards and wild trees throughout the San Juan Islands and Washington State to make small-batch ciders while their own orchard on Orcas Island is maturing. This bundle features their Orchard Cider, their flagship blend of many different apple varieties, including many foraged from old Orcas Island heritage orchards.Ā
- Presque Isle Farm (PIF): Located on the shores of Lake Huron in the Northeast corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, PIF is a labor of love owned & operated by Dion & Molly Stepanski - partners in business and in life. The cidery was launched as an extension of their growing organic farm in Alpena, Michigan. PIF's focus is on English style cider - made with apples sourced from small farms across northern Michigan. This bundle features their Kingston Black Single-Varietal made 100% from the famed Kingston Black apple, spontaneously fermented in stainless steel with the native yeast living on the fruit
- Shawnee Hill Farm:Ā Located on Vashon Island in Washington State, just a short ferry boat ride from Seattle. The small village and remote island of Vashon is home to dozens of organic farms and a robust cider community. Stephen and Jenna Buffington bought the property their farm now resides on more than 20 years ago, and have spent two decades building and growing their farm, orchard, and vineyard. They've planted 100s of fruit and nut trees as well as two vineyards on the property, where they now make cider, wine, and spirits. This bundle featuresĀ one of two options from Shawnee Hill: 1) Farmhouse Cider, a rolling blend of cider apples coming off their farm based orchard throughout the growing season. Each annual batch of this cider will produce a different blend of apples based on which trees produce the most on their estate orchard each year.Ā ORĀ 2) Pommeau, a dessert style apple wine made from estate grown apples, blended with apple brandy distilled on the farm. Apple juice was fermented to cider and distilled, then blended with fresh apple juice - all from fruit grown on Shawnee Hill's estate on Vashon Island.Ā Choose between these two options below by selecting either "Cider Only" or "Cider With Pommeau".
