Praise for Apple Tales book:
"No one else in contemporary cider culture has dived as deep into apple varieties and their fermented flavors as Darlene Hayes. In addition to her comprehensive research and thoughtful analyses, Darlene has a nuanced palate and an accessible writing style. I can't imagine a better way for anyone interested in apple fermentations to get introduced to and enthralled by the breadth of varieties and their potential for creating great ciders." - Eleanor Leger, Eden Ciders
"The history of apples in North America is filled with larger than life characters, tall tales and misremembered details. Famous varieties come with often repeated fictions that fail to capture the history and the individuals who brought these seed lings to our orchards. Hayes' study cuts to the facts while taking care to acknowledge the people who grew, nurtured and cultivated the trees and not just the people the apples were named for. This meticulously researched book helps set the record straight and gives the apple community a definitive record for the future, in the path of Lee Calhoun's Old Southern Apples and S.A. Beach's Apples of New York." - Dan Pucci, author of American Cider
