Eve's Cidery - Albee Hill 2024 (750 mL)
Eve's Cidery - Albee Hill 2024 (750 mL)
Eve's Cidery's Albee Hill is an absolutely exquisite still (uncarbonated) cider, released almost annually from Eve's. Made with a blend of several cider apple varieties grown in a single orchard block on Albee Hill on Eve's farm. This 2024 vintage is the first release of the cider in over 2 years after a late freeze led to a total crop loss for Eve's in 2022, and a light crop in 2023.
The blend varies annually based on how the trees produce (most apples produce larger crops every other year) - but it's always one of our favorite annual releases. This cider usually has considerable aging potential, so it can be a fun bottle to collect and compare vintages over time.
From Eve's: "It's always a delight to sample our way through barrels and tanks, to intuitively create a blend, and then to find that is "tastes like Albee Hill". How is that possible when the varietal makeup varies bottlign to bottling? Could it be magical terroir of this steep and lonesome orchard? This year's Albee Hill was made by blending multiple field blends with a few single varietal barrels to get a layered, minerally, electric cider."
This is the 2024 vintage (year fruit was grown and harvested). The apple varieties in this vintage's blend are:
- Acidity 46%: Goldrush, Northern Spy. Collaos, Crimson Crisp.
- Tannins & Texture 31%: Binet Rouge, Bulmer's Norman, Frequin Rouge, Stoke Red, Fillbarrel, Chisel Jersey, Bedan, Solarina, Ellis Bitter, Krys, Harry Master's Jersey.
- Aromatics 23%: Golden Russet, Esopus Spitzenburg, Liberty.
Fermented naturally with native/wild yeast, then bottled still. Slightly off-dry. Tasting notes of ripe melon, warm pine, wet shale.
About Eve's Cidery: One of our long-time favorite American cider makers. Eve's is located in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate, New York - one of the premier apple growing and cider making regions in the U.S. Started in 2001 by Autumn Stoscheck, James Cummins, and Ezra Sherman - making Eve's Cidery part of the early wave of cideries helping revive American fine cider. They have thoughtfully developed their own organic cider orchards, intentionally selecting apple varieties to grow based on those that are excellent for cider making and that grow well in their terroir. Eve's makes cider using traditional methods - all native yeast fermentations, bottled either still or naturally sparkling (Méthode Champenoise/Traditional Method). We carry a wide range of their ciders, and get a shipment approximately once per year - grab these small batch ciders while you can!
