South Hill Cider - Goldrush (750 mL)
South Hill Cider - Goldrush (750 mL)
South Hill Cider's Goldrush is a single-varietal cider featuring the Goldrush apple - primarily a dessert/eating apple, but one that makes for a great cider.
The Gold Rush apple was developed in the 1990s by Purdue University in Indiana. It's parentage includes Golden Delicious and Winesap apples. This late ripening apple has a gorgeous yellow appearance and it's thick skin makes for a great storing apple.
This cider is made 100% from Goldrush apples grown by Brooktondale Orchard, just outside of Ithaca, New York in the Finger Lakes region. Made in the traditional method, in which a secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle, then rested, riddled, and disgorged (a.k.a. Method Champenoise or Champagne Method).
Tasting notes: Aromas of cantaloupe, melon, honeydew (dino-melon), juicy, fruit salad.
Pairings: Fruit salad w/ whipped cream, prosciutto w/ melon, lemon brown butter halibut, cioppino.
About South Hill: South Hill Cider is located in Ithaca, in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York - an area highly regarded for it's orchards and vineyards, and one of the premier cider making regions in the U.S. All of the apples used in South Hill's ciders are organic; most are now grown on their own orchard - though they still source fruit from other nearby orchards, as well as a few wild growing trees they forage fruit from. Their ciders are all naturally / wild fermented using the native yeast living on the fruit and in the cidery. South Hill makes an excellent mix of dry to semi-dry ciders, mostly sparkling plus a few of our favorite still ciders, and some of the best pommeau (apple mistelle) made in America. Head cider maker Steve Selin is a long time musician - many of their ciders have a name that pays homage to his musical roots.
