Alpenfire Cider - Smoke Pommeau (375 mL)

Alpenfire Cider - Smoke Pommeau (375 mL)
Alpenfire's Smoke is a pommeau from Alpenfire that is aged over peated whiskey oak chips for a prolonged period. Fresh apple juice from fruit grown on Alpenfire's estate orchard is blended with apple brandy (distilled from their own cider) and then aged for nearly 5 years before bottling. The result is a sweet and pleasantly smokey, spirit-like dessert cider that is perfect for those who love drinking cider by a campfire or that enjoy a warming, luscious spirit. Perfect for these cool Fall and Winter nights.
2019 Vintage (year fruit was pressed).
About Pommeau: Pommeau is a fortified cider enjoyed as a dessert or an apéritif. Pommeau is made by blending unfermented apple juice with apple brandy. The mixture is then aged in oak barrels, typically for at least 2 years (and often longer). The high percentage of alcohol from the apple brandy prevents the fresh juice from fermenting, and thus the beverage retains a considerable level of sweetness. The prolonged aging results in a rich melding of complex flavors from the cider juice blend, warmth from the brandy, and complexities from the barrel. Pommeau typically has an alcohol by volume in the 16-18% range, and is best enjoyed an ounce or two at a time at cellar temperatures. Stored at cellar temperatures or refrigerated, even an open bottle of Pommeau will age well and can be enjoyed slowly over time. For more on Pommeau, check out our blog post, What is Pommeau?

About Alpenfire Cider: Alpenfire was one of Washington State's first commercial cideries when they opened in 2006. For two decades since then, they've been very consistently releasing some of the finest craft ciders in North America. Alpenfire was also the first American cidery to obtain a certified organic designation. Their family's estate orchard in Port Townsend on the Olympic Penninsula includes around 1,000 English, French, and Heirloom apple trees. Operated by Bear and Nancy Bishop, and their son Phillipe - to the Bishop family organic is not an option but a necessity - a necessity that keeps them in touch with nature and helps to create the kind of future they want for their family and the planet.
Alpenfire is usually Erik's answer to the question "which cidery is your favorite?".
