Alpenfire Cider - Kingston Black Single-Varietal (750 mL)
Alpenfire Cider - Kingston Black Single-Varietal (750 mL)
Alpenfire Cider's Kingston Black is a single-varietal cider made 100% from Kingston Black apples grown on Alpenfire's estate orchard in Port Townsend, Washington. 2024 Vintage (year of fruit's harvest), released in Fall 2025.
Tasting Notes: This batch drinks slightly off-dry with great balance of tannins and acidity (medium-plus). First sip bursts with crisp apple. Notes of citrus, orange peel, and a kiss of clove. Lightly creamy, and tart with nice mouthfeel. Finishes dry with a refreshing lingering lime juice note.
Kingston Black | Single Varietal Cider - 2024 Harvest
From Alpenfire: The Kingston Black, the most widely recognized apple in the cider world known for is balanced yet complex flavor profile, bursting with citrus, earthiness and in ours a touch of salinity. Dark red skin almost purple with slight russeting, ours are medium to small sized and they grow in a conical shape. We’ve heard allot of complaints about this variety in the US but ever since planting them back in 2003 we’ve enjoyed the little quirks they have growing in our maritime climate. We see a big difference in these organically grown apples year to year where their acidity peaks in a cool summer and the soft tannins come to the fore in a hot growing season. This particular vintage we picked mid season and decided to let the native yeasts do what they do best. Those little buggers worked hard through the chilly winter but eventually went to sleep and left us with a balanced cider with soft tannins and a natural sweetness.
About Alpenfire Cider: Alpenfire was one of Washington State's first commercial cideries when they opened in 2006. For two decades since then, they've been very consistently releasing some of the finest craft ciders in North America. Alpenfire was also the first American cidery to obtain a certified organic designation. Their family's estate orchard in Port Townsend on the Olympic Penninsula includes around 1,000 English, French, and Heirloom apple trees. Operated by Bear and Nancy Bishop, and their son Phillipe - to the Bishop family organic is not an option but a necessity - a necessity that keeps them in touch with nature and helps to create the kind of future they want for their family and the planet.
Alpenfire is usually Erik's answer to the question "which cidery is your favorite?".
