Cockrell Cider - Apple Mistelle (375 mL)
Cockrell Cider - Apple Mistelle (375 mL)
Cockrell Cider's Apple Mistelle is a dessert cider made in the same style as pommeau. American cider makers have taken to naming their pommeau as Apple Mistelle to honor the French producer's control of pommeau production.
This fortified cider is made much like a port or dessert wine. A blend of apple brandy and fresh apple juice is aged for three years in oak barrels. Great as an aperitif or accompanying dessert or cheese.
About Pommeau: Pommeau is a traditional French apéritif of the Normandy and Brittany regions of France, made by mixing unfermented apple juice with apple brandy (Calvados in the Calvados region and lambig in Brittany). It is overseen and protected by an Appellation d’Origine Controlée as Pommeau de Normandie (and Pommeau de Bretagne in Brittany). It is best served at cellar temperatures (50 degrees, give or take), a couple of ounces at a time. Enjoy like you would an aperitif or a dessert wine.
