Alpenfire Cider - Nootka Rosé (750mL)
Alpenfire Cider - Nootka Rosé (750mL)
Alpenfire Cider's Nootka Rosé is a special and limited release from Alpenfire's Burnt Brance Reserve series. The Burnt Branch Reserve series is reserved for their smallest batch ciders, no more than 30 gallons total production. Each is unique & may never be made again.
Nootka Rose is a native yeast fermentation of the Airlie Redflesh apple - the same apple used in their award winning Glow Rosé cider. These unique apples have a pale green skin with the blush of the watermelon red fruit within showing through. The Airlie Red apple (also known as Mountain Rose or Hidden Rose) is a chance seedling apple that was originally found in Oregon by a cowboy riding his horse through the hills of his farm. It's delightful for eating and has since become quite popular for natural rosé ciders. Alpenfire was the first cidery to make a red-fleshed cider using this apple. Glow is an annual favorite of ours, and has inspired many cider makers around the PNW to now get their hands on these same apples grown on the same farm it was originally discovered on in Oregon.
This Nootka Rosé cider has a tropical fruit flavor and a candy apple aroma. This version has a softer body, lower acidity and a fruitier bouquet than Glow.
Glow is a single-varietal rosé cider made from the unique Airlie Red Flesh apples, which sport pale green skin with a watermelon-hued blush of the fruit within peeking through, giving this beautiful pink cider its color. As far as flavor goes, Glow yields candied apple aromas with cranberry, strawberry, and tropical fruits on the palate. Lightly spritzy, with sparkling acidity and a touch of sweetness on the finish, makes this a great happy hour sip or complement to many foods.
The Airlie Red Flesh apples used in this cider were grown using organic methods by the Silvernail Family Farm in Kings Valley, Oregon.
This 2022 Vintage was awarded both Best in Show and a Gold medal in the Red-Fleshed Dry Cider category at the 2023 Northwest Cider Cup. This 2023 vintage is just as good if not better!
This cider drinks semi-dry with medium-plus to high acidity. Low tannins. Tart red fruit medley lead by candied watermelon and fresh strawberries; and a fresh apple sweetness.
From The Cidery: Our award winning Alpenfire Glow is fermented from the Airlie Red, an organically grown apple from the south end of the Willamette Valley with red flesh is what we use to create this single varietal rosé cider. No filtration, adjuncts, colorings, or other fruits are added to this cider, just full strength fresh pressed red fleshed apple nectar.
About Alpenfire Cider: Alpenfire was one of Washington State's first commercial cideries when they opened in 2006. For two decades since then, they've been very consistently releasing some of the finest craft ciders in North America. Alpenfire was also the first American cidery to obtain a certified organic designation. Their family's estate orchard in Port Townsend on the Olympic Penninsula includes around 1,000 English, French, and Heirloom apple trees. Operated by Bear and Nancy Bishop, and their son Phillipe - to the Bishop family organic is not an option but a necessity - a necessity that keeps them in touch with nature and helps to create the kind of future they want for their family and the planet.
Alpenfire is usually Erik's answer to the question "which cidery is your favorite?".
