Alpenfire Cider - Traditional Heirloom Cuvée (750 mL)
Alpenfire Cider - Traditional Heirloom Cuvée (750 mL)
Alpenfire CIder's Traditional Cuvée is a blend of traditional French & English cider apples and American heirloom apples. Blended in small batches as needed throughout the year to replenish kegs for accounts throughout Seattle, if you're lucky you'll find the latest batch of this cider on tap in town (also known as THC - Traditional Heirloom Cider). Each batch is different, which makes revisiting this cider throughout the year a lot of fun.
Different blends of apples are used for each batch of THC - the cuvée is artfully crafted by blending together various other finished ciders aging at Alpenfire's cidery. Usually always dry to off-dry, with an exceptional balance achieved through the thoughtful art of the cuvée. Alpenfire documents the blending notes and tasting notes of each batch on their website, dating all the way back to Batch #1.
Every 6th or so batch of THC makes it's way into bottles. Normally in small format 500 ML bottles, this batch (Blend #69 - named Be Excellent to Each Other) is in large format 750 ML bottles.
Made from a blend of 75% Organic 2025 Fuji Pippins from Hood River, Oregon; and 25% Organic 2025 Vilberie & Brown Snout from Alpenfire's Estate Orchard. It's dry, crushable, with modest complexity and tannins. Nice notes of apple skin, stone fruit, and a gentle tannic kiss.
Now more than ever is time to "be excellent to each other", time to build each other up, not tear each other down. While it feels like a bogus journey, this cider can help with its spicy aroma, light carbonation and honey like finish. An all around enjoyable cider that is made to enjoy with excellent friends! Party On Dudes!
About Alpenfire Cider: Alpenfire was one of Washington State's first commercial cideries when they opened in 2006. For two decades since then, they've been very consistently releasing some of the finest craft ciders in North America. Alpenfire was also the first American cidery to obtain a certified organic designation. Their family's estate orchard in Port Townsend on the Olympic Penninsula includes around 1,000 English, French, and Heirloom apple trees. Operated by Bear and Nancy Bishop, and their son Phillipe - to the Bishop family organic is not an option but a necessity - a necessity that keeps them in touch with nature and helps to create the kind of future they want for their family and the planet.
Alpenfire is usually Erik's answer to the question "which cidery is your favorite?".
