Two Broads Ciderworks - She Turned Me To A Newt (500 mL)
Two Broads Ciderworks - She Turned Me To A Newt (500 mL)
Two Broad's She Turned Me To A Newt is a dry cider that highlights the Newtown Pippin apple that grows prominently in California orchards.
Newtown Pippin is one of those great cider apples that makes a beautifully balanced cider all by itself. This heirloom apple has more tannin than most dessert apple varieties and enough acid to make a balanced cider. Two Broads normally doesn't blend it, but this year's batch is 89% Newtown Pippin (grown at Jake Mann's legendary Five Mile Orchard in Watsonville, California) and 11% Braeburn apples (from Two Broads' orchard in San Luis Obispo). Oak-aged slightly after fermentation. Fruit from the 2023 harvest, bottled in 2024.
Lightly carbonated. Velvety with flavors of apples, honey, lemon, and apricots. Nicely balanced tannins and acidity.
About Two Broads Ciderworks: Maggie, a biologist and gardener, and Morgan, a home brewer and engineer, met as students. They fell in love, and many of their mutual interests began to align. Maggie learned more about beer and how to homebrew. Morgan learned about local flora and fauna and gardening. As they explored California's San Luis Obispo county, they happened upon See Canyon Cider, and in its beautiful orchards discovered they loved heirloom apples. They made their first hard cider with the juice pressed from See Canyon apples. Fast forward to the present. Morgan and Maggie have committed their lives to each other and to making great cider for their community. Their goal: to source local fruit to make delicious ciders in San Luis Obispo, to promote the appreciation of good cider, and to nurture the growth of heirloom cider apple production locally.
